Herbs are life: my favourites during pregnancy

When I first found I was pregnant I felt lost with respect to what teas, adaptogens (if any) and herbs I could have safely. These were part of my daily life prior so it’s a big deal for me to cut them all out. I obviously also want to be cautious as research is lacking in this area (mainly because it’s unethical to do studies with pregnant women).

I kept it safe with mint, nettle and green tea in the beginning. Now that I’m 24 weeks and well into the second, I felt comfortable including more, including medicinal mushrooms occasionally. Check in with your herbalist or health care provider. I found a local tea line that I’m loving created by a herbalist so I trust their combinations for pregnant women.

My current favourites and some of their health benefits:

ROSE HIPS: vitamin c rich for immunity
OATSTRAW: nervine tonic, calming, reduce stress
ECHINACEA: immunity
GINGER ROOT: nausea, digestion, immunity
DANDELION: liver, water retention, constipation, UTIs, hormones, skin
SPEARMINT: digestion, stress, memory, blood sugars
CHAMOMILE: nervine relaxant, good for the gut and sleep
PEPPERMINT: digestion and so tasty
LEMON BALM: sedative, relaxing, anxiety, depression
NETTLE: iron, nutrient rich, inflammation, blood pressure, blood sugars

I’d love to hear your go to herbs? How do you consume them? Tinctures? Tea?
