The Queen of Green Smoothies - Bruce's Roots
I don't count calories. I don't weigh myself.
What I do think about is the nutrients I am giving my body. I want to nourish my body.
I love the quote by Heather Morgan, "every time you eat or drink you are either fighting disease or feeding it."
The calories in fries are going to be high, but what nutritional value does that bring you? Not much.
Recently, someone said "but avocados are so high in calories." Yes, they are, but they are so good for you and that's more important to me. Avocados and healthy fats keep my blood sugars balanced, are high in fibre, support heart health, aid in absorption of other nutrients, contain Vitamin K and B's.
Here is my filling, creamy, warming detox smoothie.
Ingredients
- half an organic cucumber
- 1/4 organic lemon, I included peel
- 1 organic banana, spotty, not frozen
- pranin organic iron scoop
- 1 scoop of greens blend: spirulina, chlorella, camu camu, wheatgrass is in mine
- knob of ginger root
- knob of turmeric root
- 1-2 handfuls of organic lettuce, I choose spinach
- 2 stalks of organic celery
- 1-2 tablespoons of hemp hearts
- 1 tablespoon of organic flax seeds, whole
- organic fresh parsley to taste
- organic fresh mint to taste
- probiotics, I'm currently using a powder formula
- coconut water to blend, not from concentrate.
Blend until smooth!
Having a Vitamix has definitely up'd my smoothie game. You can't even tell there is celery in here!
I have chosen to avoid using any frozen items in this smoothie to support my "digestive fire." I also know that having very cold food isn't great for my Ayurvedic Dosha, vatta.
With respect to the Pranin Iron, only add if low in Iron. Also, if you are avoiding bananas, add an orange. If you are on a low yeast/candida diet, try 1/4-1/4 an avocado or a plant-based protein powder for extra creaminess. You don't have to add every single ingredient, this is just what I had in my fridge and pantry. I don't advise adding any immune boosters/algae if you have an autoimmune disease. If you're not sure about using any of these ingredients, please speak to your nutritionist. This is perfect for my body, but we are all different.
If you do want to add any of the amazing Pranin Organic products use code BRUCESROOTS for 20% off your order. This code can be used over and over too! I love their Mom's A-Z, the Vitamin C as it's a precursor to collagen and aids in absorption of Iron as well as the Vitamin B's for mood and energy. You can add it to smoothies or you can mix a small scoop with tahini and eat it right off the spoon.
ENJOY.
xx

High protein and filled with healthy unsaturated fats, these make great snacks for adults on the go. My child also loves them made with cacao instead of protein powder. Great to avoid feeling anxious or irritated from skipping a meal. All the benefits of ingredients are listed along with the recipe.
I literally crave this dessert and it’s made from chickpeas! The peanut butter increases the protein content and I list all the benefits of eating beans.
This is the best cake I’ve ever eaten! Plus, the ingredients are amazing. All nutritious whole foods without any oils, gluten or dairy.
These have the best creamy texture and they’re loaded with protein and fat to keep blood sugars more balanced when eating something sweeter!
